  COMM12020 - Communication in the Digital Age
A contextual approach to developing an understanding of the basics of communication. The emphasis is on public communication, using speech, print, visuals, and the World Wide Web as the primary means of ensuring a common understanding of meaning between audiences. The course explores current and emerging theories of human communication; the development of Internet and web technologies and their impact on individuals, organisations, cultures, and instructional communication. Electronic tutorials, chatroom and on-line discussion groups are used to ensure students have practical experience, as well as theoretical understanding, of electronic communication methodologies.

COMM11007 - Professional Writing
Good written communication skills are essential for graduates from all disciplines. This course aims to help students develop their writing skills and apply them to a range of communication formats. Traditional and new communication formats for government, non- government and alternative organisations are covered in this course.

MMST11001 - Introduction to Multimedia
This course examines how readers read the different kinds of text that multimedia practice assembles. The objective of this work is to examine creative ways to integrate technical, aesthetic, textual and functional aspects. The course will examine a diverse range of on-line texts, basic hypertext theory, interactivity and information design. These conceptual investigations will be carried out alongside creative skills development in digital image manipulation using Jasc Paint Shop Pro and Web construction.

MMST11003 - Design Perspectives
This course provides students with a language and analytical framework for discussing graphical genres and styles, along with practical skills for creating and manipulating digital images. Topics covered include technological paradigms of design, visual discourse, visual literacy, contemporary design principles and design movements of the twentieth century. Practical work will involve the use of image-editing software such as Adobe Photoshop or Jasc Paint Shop Pro, and drawing software such as Adobe Illustrator or Macromedia Fireworks.

CULT12004 - Cultural and Media Identity
Cultural & Media Identity examines contemporary cultural industries and policy issues including debates about festivals, heritage, the arts, music and new media within Australia and overseas. It encourages an understanding and analysis of changing policies in relation to audiences and technologies at national, global and regional levels.
