Current Teaching Areas
Data Communications
Data Communications is an ever evolving area and we try to continually reflect this in the
design and content of this course, while still retaining the fundamental concepts of historial systems and innovations.
This course covers the basic concepts and terminology used in electronic communication and networking.
The text for this course guides the student through the content by providing details on the variety of
media, protocols and technologies used in Data and Telecommunications.
Hardware to Software and many things inbetween are covered. The aim of this course
is to give a grounding in the fundamental concepts of data communications, from its foundations to the present day.
It is almost impossible to teach the latest and greatest innovations but that is not the focus of this course.
In the end it is hoped that many of the concepts you have only just heard about have become real and understandable.
Networks
This course continues on where Data Communications left off and therefore
has it as it prerequisite. This is an advanced level course
and therefore takes a deeper look at the electronic data communications technologies
with emphasis on how they are implemented using the TCP/IP protocol suite.
Digital Telecommunications and Networks
This course is available only at the PostGraduate level and forms part of the core of many of our Graduate Diploma and Masters programs. The aim of this course is to cover the areas of Data and Voice Communications with a business related focus and to expose students from non-technical backgrounds to the concepts and categories of electronic communication so they can relate to mamagement or administrative staff within their profession who are experts or advisors in this area.
