High attrition rates from first courses in programming – Scot Aldred, Arthur Pinkney and Kathy Egea (TBC)
Women in Computing is a Faculty of Informatics and Communication research group that looks at
• Promotion of careers in IT for women
• Student support network groups while at University
• Professional development of female staff in INFOCOM
• Networking with the IT industry
WIC is supported through a group of female INFOCOM faculty staff who are interested in this research and the overall promotion of IT and IS careers in the workplace. We meet on occasions to discuss Faculty directions in this perspective. Currently we are working at engaging a coordinator to help promote our WIC research, however this requires funding which is not available at this present time.
Women in Computing are members of the Women in Technology, Queensland organisation, a not-for-profit association for professional, enthusiastic, dynamic women working, studying or pursuing a career in the varied fields of technology. WIT programs provide unique opportunities for personal and professional development whilst contributing to the growth and development of Queenslands technology industries.

Network Meetings
We are hoping to restart networking meetings/luncheons between staff and students across all year levels. The purpose of these meetings is to share experiences, ideas, and 'tricks of the trade' from the more experienced IT and IS students. Stay tuned.
